GERALD AND JANICE ALBRECHT

 

Many of their accomplishments have been done together; however, each has gone their own way in areas of special interests.  Most of their individual accomplishments could not have been done without the help and support of the other. 

TOGETHER:

Received the Minnesota Holstein “Persons of the Year Award” in 1995.

Received the Minnesota Holstein “Long Time Meritorious Service Award” in 2000.

They sponsor the Minnesota Holstein Junior Recognition Program, with awards and a financial stipend to the honorees (4 each year).

They have developed a fine herd of registered Holstein cattle, with emphasis on type and longevity, ir herd every seven months.

The past fifteen years they have exhibited 10-24 head of cattle at the Carver Co. Fair, with an extensive display where families learn about animal agriculture.

Hosted the Carver County Holstein Twilight Meeting, Farm City Day in Watertown and numerous city tours on their farm.  In addition, they have provided cows and calves for several promotions at local schools and functions.

They have attended 25 National Holstein conventions, supporting the National Junior Show activities, breed programs and association business.

GERALD:

Has been a member of the Minnesota Holstein Association’s History Committee for years and has chaired the History Display at their annual meeting for the past 10 years.

Chaired the 50th Anniversary of the Holstein Distinguished Junior Program.

Secretary of the Carver County Holstein Club and a nine year Board Member.

Albrecht Holsteins provided the display herd at the Minnesota State Fair in 1988 and 1998.

Truly a promoter and supporter of the dairy industry, Holstein and youth.  A great support for Janice, as she pursued her many livestock leadership roles.

JANICE:

Minnesota Holstein Association Board of Directors, 1979-1988; Junior Advisor 1981-1988.

Minnesota Holstein Association elected delegate to the National Convention every year of eligibility.

Minnesota Livestock Breeders’ Association Board of Directors since 1990. Chair of Resolutions Committee for 10 years.

MN Foundation for Responsible Animal Care (MNFRAC) Board of Directors 1995 to present, President 2001-2003.

Minnesota Dairy Leaders Roundtable, representing MNFRAC, 2001 to present.

Education for Agriculture Sustainability, Board of Directors 2000 to present, Chair 2000 to present.

Carver County Fair leadership since 1971; Open Class Supt., Director, Treasurer, Secretary, and since 1977 manager.  In the late 70’s spearheaded the Dairy Barn Building with donations, financing and project planning.

Carver County Extension Committee 2000 to present. Chair 2002 & 2003.

Minnesota Extension Advisory Committee 1995 – 1998, Chair 1997 & 1998.

Carver County Dairy Day Committee, since 1972, secretary since 1992.

Carver County Holstein Association Board of Directors for 18 years.

Co-chaired the State Holstein Convention hosted by Carver County in 1979, 1990, and 2000.

 

For their many contributions to Minnesota’s livestock industry, they are most deserving inductees to the Minnesota Livestock Hall of Fame.
